Naturopathy is a system of medicine that uses natural methods, such as diet and herbs. It’s based on the idea that the body has the power to heal itself through natural processes.
Naturopaths are health practitioners who use natural therapies to treat and prevent illness. The word ‘naturopathy‘ means ‘nature cure‘, and naturopaths aim to help patients regain or maintain good health by using methods that encourage the body’s own healing processes.
Naturopaths believe that the human body has an innate capacity to heal itself, and that this can be enhanced by treatments such as diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes. Naturopaths may also prescribe nutritional supplements or botanicals (herbs), or use other alternative therapies such as homeopathy, acupuncture and massage therapy.
A naturopath can work with you to:
- manage your weight or lose weight if you need to
- treat minor illnesses or injuries at home
- help you feel better when you’re sick with a cold or flu
- manage chronic health problems like allergies, asthma or diabetes
